Tioman, Malaysia

Little Planet operates in the village of Kampung Juara, on the rugged east side of Tioman Island, Malaysia. The setting includes white sand beaches, a protected marine environment, and primary rainforest, a place for students to connect with nature, grow as individuals, and build friendships.

Little Planet has run programs here since 2008, working with international schools across Southeast Asia.

Our Campuses: Lagoon and Riverview

Little Planet owns and operates two outdoor education properties on Tioman, Lagoon and Riverview, about two kilometers apart at either end of Juara Bay. Together they hold capacity for more than 200 students plus accompanying teachers and staff.

Both properties were purpose-built, retrofitted, and modified specifically to serve as outdoor education campuses. Little Planet books one campus exclusively per group, so a school has the run of the place for the week rather than sharing it with other groups.

Students learn through swimming, trekking, sea kayaking, snorkeling, camping, and other outdoor activities, on multi-day expeditions by land, sea, and river.

Throughout, students plan and work toward their own goals as a group, developing skills tied to Little Planet's four learning pillars: capable, conscious, creative, and connected.

A program runs across 5 days:

Day 1: Arrive, settle in, build trust through games and connection
Day 2: Kayak through the area's ecosystems, take part in local marine conservation work, and explore the house reefs
Day 3: Connect across cultures, build environmental awareness, and enjoy some friendly competition
Day 4: Trek through old-growth primary jungle, visit waterfalls, and reflect around a campfire
Day 5: Depart with new skills and experiences to carry home

Community and Conservation

Little Planet's project-based learning is built around real, local partnerships. Students support the Juara Turtle Project's conservation work and take part in a functional waste management program within the village. Because these projects are led by local professionals and experts, the work students do has tangible, lasting benefit to the Kampung Juara community, not just a one-off volunteer day.
